How to Clean & Rejuvenate Slate Natural Stone Floors Tiles in Spanish Trail, NV; Use Right Tile Cleaner & More

While slate tile flooring is an incredibly durable surface, if you don’t care for it properly, it can sustain damage. When you maintain it the way you should, you can enjoy this flooring for decades to come. It is important you know what needs to be done and what you should avoid doing so that you don’t end up causing undue damage to the surface of your slate tiles. Silver State Floor Restoration is here to talk about some mistakes that often happen so that you can avoid them and avoid damaging your slate tile flooring.

Use Right Slate Cleaner

You may think that slate tile is so durable, it doesn’t matter what kind of cleaner you use to keep it clean. This isn’t true though. You should avoid using abrasive or acidic cleaners on your slate tile flooring. You should never use vinegar or lemon juice on your flooring as this can cause etching in the tile. Acidic cleaners will also start to break down the sealant on the floor that gives it the protection it needs. Abrasive cleaners will do the same thing and cause etching and deep scratching in the floor.

Don’t Drag Heavy Furniture on Slate Floors

The durability of slate tile can leave homeowners feeling laxed on what they can and can’t do on them. Even though it is a natural stone, you should avoid dragging heavy furniture on its surface. It can cause etching and scratching that is similar to using an abrasive cleaner on the floor. This can be avoided by simply putting socks or something that will offer protection on the bottom of the legs of the furniture or other heavy items that you are planning to slide across the floor. That way you don’t have to worry about it.

Turn Off Vacuum Beater Bar

Vacuuming your slate tile is often preferred over sweeping because it is usually quicker and easier to get done. This can be just fine as long as you make sure to adjust the settings on your vacuum to clean tile flooring. You should be able to turn off the beater brush that is used to clean carpet. If you don’t have this capability on your vacuum, you should avoid using it on your slate tile flooring. The beater brush on your vacuum can cause deep scratching on the slate tile that can’t be reversed.
