How to Clean & Care for Your Travertine Tile & Grout Flooring, Countertops & More in Centennial, NV

When you were selecting flooring options for your home there were probably quite a few reasons that you decided on travertine. The main reason you probably chose travertine flooring is that it is beautiful. Travertine tiles are unmatched in their grace and style. In addition to its beauty it is also extremely strong. Its strength and endurance help travertine resist damage, staining, and corrosion. Once your flooring is installed you may not have any idea how to properly care for it. Today Silver State Floor Restoration has some tips for you on how to care for your travertine flooring so that it will be stunning for years to come.

Sealing Travertine Before Grouting

One of the best ways you can take care of your travertine flooring is to seal the tiles before installation. Travertine is a permeable rock that has very small pores in it. These pores make it susceptible to discoloration and staining. Sealing the tiles can help prevent that from happening. When it comes to sealants there are a few different types. One type of sealant seeps into the holes in your tile. This makes it so that dust and liquid cannot accumulate on your tile. The second type of sealant is a surface sealer. This one will create a barrier on the top of the tiles that will make it so that moisture and dirt cannot seep into your tile. When you are having your flooring installed you will want to see what type of sealer the manufacturer recommends for your travertine. We do recommend not being cheap when you purchase your sealant. Purchase a high-quality sealant for the best results.

Use Best Travertine Floor Cleaner Products

Once your travertine is installed and sealed properly you will need to take care of your travertine on a regular basis. You will want to make sure that you use cleaning products that are the right ones for your flooring. There are so many different cleaning products out there right now. You will want to make sure that you do not pick anything that has too much acid in it. Once you have purchased a cleaning product that you think will work you will want to test it in an obscure area of your home. Sometimes cleaning products can stain or discolor your flooring. If you test it first on a small area you will be able to catch this and ensure that it does not happen all over your flooring.

Sweeping & Mopping Travertine Floors

You will want to make sure that you sweep and mop your travertine flooring regularly. Dust and other particles can build up on your flooring and cause all sorts of different problems. Sweeping your flooring regularly will get the dust off of your floor. Mopping will help you get off anything that is stuck on your flooring that sweeping will not get. Mopping with warm water is frequently enough to keep your travertine clean. If you have a spot that just will not come off you will want to pull out the product that you tested and use that. When you mop make sure that you do not completely soak your mop with water. The pores in your travertine flooring will soak up the water if you use too much. This will cause your tile to degrade and mold to grow underneath the tile.
