One of the services that we offer here at Silver State Floor Restoration is natural stone polishing. We love to see the look on our customers’ faces when they see how beautiful their floors look when we are done polishing them. Before we leave our customers almost always ask how often the polishing will last. How long your natural stone floor polishing will last varies from one to three years. The better you maintain your flooring in between our visits to your home the longer they will last. Today we will focus on how to maintain your marble flooring.
Marble Floor Sealing
We recommend that you seal your marble flooring. Marble is an extremely porous material. Dirt gets into the marble through these pores. If you seal your marble floor it will help prevent dirt from being able to find its way into your flooring. When the marble loses its shine it is time to seal your floor again. Keeping your floor properly sealed at all times will help your floor last longer.
Dirt Trapping Door Mats
Our next tip seems so small and insignificant but it helps more than you can imagine. Buy a doormat for inside and outside all of the doors that come into your home. As you walk around outside your shoes collect stone and grit. If you come inside the house with stone and grit on your shoes it can scratch your floors. Having a doormat for people to wipe their feet on will help prevent this from happening.
Sweep & Mop Clean Marble Floors
Sweeping and mopping your stone marble floors regularly is also extremely important. You will want to make sure that before you mop or buffer your floor that you get all of the dirt and dust off of your floor first. If you mop or buffer your floor when it has grit or dust on it can scratch your stone floor. When you mop your floor you will need some water and stone soap. Some people will attempt to use vinegar, lemon juice, or other acidic cleaners on their marble flooring but please do not use them! Acidic cleaners can damage your marble flooring. You will also want to make sure that your mop is nice and clean before you start.
Marble Floor Buffing
Once you are done mopping and your floor is dry you will want to buff your floor. This will truly help bring out the shine in your marble flooring! Many homeowners that have a large area of marble floor choose to purchase a domestic floor buffer. Buffing your floor helps it stay shiny and beautiful. Buffing restores luster to your floor and helps remove small scratches and nicks.
