What to Use & What Not Do with Marble in Sun City Summerlin, NV; Avoid Acidic Cleaners & More

When you have beautiful marble in your home, you want to make sure that you take care of it properly. You do not want to have that beautiful marble start to get dull and get scratched because you are not taking care of it. Let’s talk about a few things that you can avoid to help ensure that your marbles stay beautiful longer.

Can You Use Acidic Cleaner on Marble?

When you clean your marble, you need to make sure that you use an appropriate cleaner. Any cleaners that have vinegar and are acidic can cause your marble to have a burn appearance, loss of glossiness, and damage to it. When acid is used on marble it can react with the calcium carbonate and eat the marble away. Make sure you have a cleaner with a pH of 7. It is also important that you take care of spills immediately on the floor or countertop because if the spill has any acid in it like lemon juice, vinegar, alcohol, or tomato juice, it can also damage your marble.

Do Not Neglect Sealing Marble Surfaces

Marble is very porous, which means, it requires regular sealing to prevent any damage from water or any other liquid. Sealing marble can be pretty easy, first, make sure you clean, and then spray the sealer in a 3-foot section. After you have sprayed, wiped the sealer into the marble. Make sure you use a lint-free cloth, this way no lint can get into the sealer and onto your marble. Buff the marble with a dry, lint-free cloth. Then let the sealer set so that it can cure. When you seal your marble floors, it helps it to not stain as easily as it would if it was not sealed. The easiest thing you can do is hire a professional to come to seal all your surfaces.

Not Cleaning & Protecting Marble is a Mistake

Marble flooring can make your home elegant and beautiful. But you have to be careful because it is very vulnerable to damage. It is not just spills that can damage it, if you do not clean your floors, meaning sweep and get rid of all of the dirt, sand, and debris you can damage your floor. Gritty particles that are abrasive can end up etching and scratching a marble floor. It is very smart to put doormats and rugs on your marble so that it can catch some of that dirt. It won’t stop all the dirt, but it can cut down the amount that can get inside and onto your floor.

Avoid Abrasive Tools on Marble

Over time your marble can start to get etching, scratches, or stains. When this happens, it may be tempting to use hard scrubbing brushes or pads to try to get rid of the damage. If you use abrasive tools on your marble, it will only make it worse. You need to make sure you use soft clothes with warm water and a natural cleaner to clean your marble. If you have marble that does have scratches or stains that you cannot clean off then you need a professional’s help.
