If the last thing you want to do is clean your shower tile, you are not alone. Let’s face it cleaning tiles that are covered in soap scum or mold and mildew just isn’t fun. The grout in between the tiles is a common breeding ground for mold and mildew. Grout is not naturally water proof and because of its porosity; soap scum, grime and body oils can settle in the grout and cause stains. While cleaning a bathroom may not be fun, having a clean bathroom that you can be proud of makes the end result worth it. The professionals at Silver State Floor Restoration have been cleaning, polishing, honing, sealing and restoring both natural stone floors and man-made floors in Las Vegas, Summerlin, North Las Vegas and Henderson since 2001.
Shower Tile Cleaning Solutions
The skilled technicians at Silver State Floor Restoration are often asked if there is a simple solution for cleaning shower tile. The answer is yes, and the key to keeping your shower tile clean is regular maintenance. Tile shower walls often get covered with a haze this is primarily composed of body oils and soap scum. The haze leaves a filmy residue, and is especially noticeable in the tub and shower area. If left unattended the hazy film will dull the tiles shine and can also lead to mildew and mold which causes staining and can darken the grout lines. The experts at Silver State Floor Restoration recommend a professional tile and grout cleaning to keep you tile sparkling clean
Silver State Floor Restoration has provided the following cleaning treatments that you can make at home between professional cleanings.
If you are unsure of the type of tile in your shower, always check with Silver State Floor Restoration before cleaning.
• Ceramic Tile – cleaning treatment is made from items in your pantry. Mix together ½ cup baking soda, ½ cup ammonia and 1 gallon of tepid water. Dip a clean sponge into the solution and wipe down the tiles, allow drying and wiping with a clean damp towel.
• Porcelain Tile – can be unpolished, polished or textured. Clean with a homemade solution of 2 gallons of tepid water mixed with ¼ cup of white vinegar. Spray both unpolished and textured porcelain tiles and allow the solution to soak for 8-10 minutes. Use a soft toothbrush to scrub stained areas and wipe with a clean towel. Spray the tile a second time with hot clean water and dry with a clean towel. The same cleaning solution is used for polished tiles, but the tiles can be buffed back to a shine using cheesecloth. Never allow the cleaning solution to puddle or dry on the tile; doing so can cause staining.
• Natural Stone – is delicate and most household cleaners are too harsh. Using a cleaner that isn’t made for stone or pH neutral may damage the tiles. Mix together ¼ cup of oil based soap, 2 gallons of tepid water. Spray on tiles, wipe clean with a clean rag or towel.
