What is Quartz Made Of?

Let’s start by talking about what quartz is. Wikipedia defines quartz as a “hard, crystalline mineral composed of silicon and oxygen atoms.” When quartz is used for countertops it is a form of engineered stone that is made of ground-up particles of stone that are then bound together with plastic resin. Quartz, granite, marble, ceramic, silica, glass, and more are all ground up together to make your quartz countertops.

Quartz Countertop Care Guide

Now that you understand what your quartz countertop is, let’s talk about how to clean it. We will start by talking about how to deal with basic spills and messes that find their way onto your countertop. You will want to use a washcloth, warm water, and a mild dish detergent. Add a small amount of mild dish detergent to the water. Get your washcloth wet in the warm, soapy water and simply go over the affected area in smooth, circular motions. Typically this will get rid of the spill without any problems. When you are done you will want to rinse out your cloth and then wipe down the area with fresh water. Make sure that you get all of the soap residue off so that it does not stay on your countertops. Take a dry towel or a paper towel and dry your quartz countertop.

How to Remove Water & Other Stains from Quartz Countertops

If the stain on your quartz countertops is difficult to remove you will want to deep clean your countertop to get rid of it. First you will want to try the method above but if it does not work try this. Get a flexible plastic scraper or nonabrasive sponge and try to get off the gunk that is on your countertop. You will want to apply a minimal amount of pressure so that you do not scratch the surface of your counter. Next take a paper towel and soak it in hot water. Allow the wet paper towel to sit on the affected area for a few minutes. Then try and clean the area again. You may have a stain that still just does not want to come off. You will want to break out the vinegar. Mix together equal amounts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Mist the mixture onto the affected area. This should get rid of the stain.
