When it comes to choosing the grout it can be a little overwhelming. Where do you start and how do you know what looks good with the look you are going for? Silver State Floor Restoration is here to give you a few tips for choosing the right grout color for the tile in your home.

Size of Room Tile is In

What is the size of the room you are working with? If you want the room to feel larger, then you should choose a grout color that blends well with the tile. If you are re-tiling your bathroom and putting white tile in the bathroom then you may want to go with white grout to help the bathroom feel larger. If you are not using white tile then pick the type of grout that goes well with the color of the tile. The goal of making a room look bigger is to make it look like it has a seamless blend.

Tile Pattern

If you were doing patterns with your tile and you want those patterns to stick out. Then you may want to choose a different color of grout from the tile. You want to choose something that will highlight the pattern that you have chosen to do with your tile. Some popular patterns are herringbone, staggered brick, grid, or stacked vertically. A good rule of thumb is to select a grout color that is a few shades lighter or darker than your tile color. This will still make your tile and grout work well together and show off the pattern that you did with your tile.

Tile Color

Not all tile is one solid color most have a few different colors inside them. What type of undertones does your tile have? Is it a cool undertone that has blue, gray, or even some pink? Or is it a warm undertone that has more orange, red, or creamy? Depending on what type of undertones your tile has will determine what color of tile you need to get. You don’t want to clash your tile and grout, it will ruin the flow of your tile.

Tile Surrounds

When you are choosing what type of grout for your tile you need to consider what is around the area where you were putting the tile and grout. Does the room have other places where there is grout? Such as a backsplash or the floor? You will also want to consider countertops and the cabinetry that is around where you are putting the tile. You want everything to flow well and you do not want the grout to offset the room.
