Winter Tile Cleaning Tips in Las Vegas, NV; Sweep, Mop, Treat Stains, Clean Grout & More

Winter is a time for holidays, family and food. Deep cleaning is not something people think about much in the winter. But with all the family coming for the holidays you want your tile to look clean. Silver State Floor Restoration is here to give you a few winter cleaning tips so that your floor can look nice in between professional cleaning while your family is here.

Sweep Tile Daily

In the winter you can track in leaves and mud more often. Sweeping your tile will help pick up all of the dirt and dust that ends up on your floor. Sweeping your floors will help keep the dirt and other materials from scratching your floor. Even though tile is durable it can still get scratched and damage the protective layer.

Take Shoes Off Inside

If you don’t have family and friends take their shoes off when they enter your home then it is time to start. When you do not take your shoes off when entering the home, then you will track in mud, dirt, and other debris that is on the bottom of your shoes. Walking around with those things on the bottom of your shoe can cause damage to your tile. Simply encouraging people to take their shoes off when they enter the home will help limit the amount of mud and dirt that gets into your home.

Mop & Wipe Up

After you are done sweeping then you can mop. Ceramic tile is very good at soaking up water. You want to make sure that after you have mopped your floor that you wipe it down. You also do not want to mop before you sweep. If you mop before you sweep then you are just pushing dirt and mud around your house scratching your floors. Always sweep first. A great idea is to also have a mat by the sinks and by outside doors. This way water won’t get on your floors as easily.

Clean Tile Stains

Ceramic tile is very porous which means it can absorb any liquids that get onto your tile. If you spill anything bright red such as wine or juice and do not clean it up right after then it can start to absorb into the floor. To help get rid of stains on your floor you can use a little bit of hydrogen peroxide on a clean rag and blot the stain. Then wash it with hot soapy water.

Clean Grout with Baking Soda Paste

If you would like to prevent stains from happening you can simply make a baking soda paste. Use a toothbrush and put it on your grout, then rinse it with water. This can help stop mold, mildew, and stains from getting onto your grout. This little trick can help keep your grout clean in between professional cleanings.
