How Do You Remove Iron Water Rust Stains from Grout in Seven Hills, NV? Call the Professionals!

Rust stains are a common occurrence on the grout surrounding many types of tile. Though most of the time the mildew and mold stains are the eyesores homeowners combat, the rust stains can still cause a lot of unsightly blemishes around the tile and grout. Where there are several retail products that claim to clean and remove stains from grout, most are seriously overpriced, ineffective, and/or extremely harsh. In order to help you save some cash and effectively remove the rough stains, as well as avoid the exposure to harsh chemicals, there are a few household items that may be able to do the trick, depending on the concentration of the rust stain and other variables. Today, we at Silver State Floor Restoration would like to share a few options on removing the rust stains from the grout.

Grout Should Be Sealed

Generally, grout should be sealed. The sealants act as a protective barrier to resist moisture and staining. Grout can be damaged if improperly maintained and cleaned so it is important to use the appropriate cleaners and implements when cleaning the tiles and grout.
Powder Laundry Detergent: Laundry detergent has been effective at removing rust stains and is gentle enough to avoid any kind of damage to the surface. Lightly dampen the affected area and sprinkle moderately a layer of powder laundry detergent onto the rust stain. Allow the detergent to loosen up the stain for 5-10 minutes. Using a soft-bristle brush or a sponge, work the rust stain with circular motions and rinse. Repeat as necessary, once satisfied, rinse the area well with warm water to remove the detergent and rust residues from the surface, pat the area dry.

Liquid Dish Detergent Grout Cleaning Solution

Mild liquid dish detergent efficiently lifts out rust stains from grout. For easy application, mix about 20 drops of mild dish soap and a cup of water in a spray bottle. Be sure the solution is mixed well. Generously spray the rust stains, letting the mixture soak into the grout for 5-10 minutes. Using a sponge or soft-bristle brush, scrub any residual rust stains. If necessary, repeat. After the rust is dissolved, be sure to use warm water to remove the soapy film and any linger rust residues from the surface. This solution can also be used to maintain and clean your tile and grout regularly.

Hydrogen Peroxide Grout Cleaner

The grout is undamaged with hydrogen peroxide as it works well to remove the rust stains. Mix a solution of 1 cup water and 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide, ideally in a clean squirt bottle. Directly spray the peroxide mixture onto the rust, scrub with a soft bristle brush or sponge as harmonize mixture application with circular scrub patterns. After the rust is efficiently cleaned from the grout, rinse the area well with warm water to eliminate any cleaner or rust remains. Also, this solution is tough on any mildew or mold stains as well. Keep in mind that hydrogen peroxide is a lightening agent. Using highly concentrated levels can potentially lighten your grout’s color. To be safe, be sure to test the diluted solution in an inconspicuous area first.
